This memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved son , Matthew Joseph Mendez (affectionately known as "Matty Boy") who was born in San Jose, California on February 16, 1983 (Ash Wednesday)and passed away on March 31, 2002 (Easter Sunday) at the age of 19. He will live in our hearts forever.
He could make you laugh, laugh until you cried. He gave the biggest hugs. At 6'4" his hugs lifted your feet off the floor and you could feel all his love wrapped around you. His infectious smile warmed your heart. He was a loving gentle soul with the biggest heart. He was beautiful inside and out.
He was a wonderful son, a great big brother to Amy and Jason. Matthew loved his brother and sister so very much. A devoted friend to many including: Eric Patao, David Dirkmatt, Andre Hinaut, Ken Fong, Darryl Grace and the gang on Seafield court. 
His special love thru his high school years and beyond was Gabby Gonzales. They were a beautiful, caring and loving couple. We are so blessed and grateful Matthew brought her into our lives and Gabby, her parents and siblings will always be apart of our family. Gabby is no doubt a daughter to us. He was blessed and loved by the extensive Gonzales and Patao families.
His love for family was genuine, faithful, and passionate.
Matthew loved sports (Dallas Cowboys) and played football for Silver Creek High School and Gavillan College.
Matthew worked at Baskin Robbins during his high school years. He was working for Quest Discovery Services (when he passed) with a group of people he simply loved. By the out pour of condolences we could tell the feelings were mutual. We  treasure  all the wonderful memories of Matthew. He brought so much joy and so much love to our family. We are all so blessed that God gave him to us to care for and to love with all of our hearts.

The love we hold  in our hearts is forever.

I lost a son I hear myself say and the person I'm talking to just turns away. Now why did I tell them, I don't understand, it wasn't for sympathy or to get a helping hand. I just wanted to tell them I lost something dear.I want them to know that my son, he was here. So if I've upset you, I'm sorry as can be you will have to forgive me  I could not resist, I just want you to know my son did exist.
